Eva "Shug" Elliott Tarver was born January 18, 1934 in Colquitt, Georgia to Willie Thornton Elliott, Sr. and Essie (Collins) Elliott. She departed this earthly life to her heavenly home on December 31, 2014. She was preceded in death by both parents, brothers David Elliott and Willie T. Elliott, and sister Essie "Dea" Gilmore.
Eva began her Christian life at an early age at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Bakers County, Georgia. At an early age, her family moved to Canton, OH in her early childhood for better economic opportunities. When she was younger, Eva made frequent visits to her hometown. These visits with her family were a highlight of her life. Eva Tarver graduated from McKinley High School, Class of 1952. In high school her first job was as an elevator operator in the Onesto Hotel in Canton. She attended Albany State University and graduated with her Associates degree in business administration in 1954. After college she was employed at the Canton Urban League where she met her husband of 57 years, Donald E. Tarver, Sr. They married and had five children. She devoted her life to nurturing and educating her family. She was pioneer member of Union Baptist Church. where she served as secretary, Missionary and Deaconess Her civic and community activities included being a member of the AKA Sorrority, Girl Scout Leader, an active member of Democratic Women's club and Canton Garden Club in which one year, she won 1st place for her floral arrangement entitled "Envy". Eva worked for more than 20 years at the Stark County Board of Elections. She reached the level of Supervisor upon retirement. Eva was known for her cooking especially her homemade ice cream, pound cake and buttermilk custard pie. She had many lifelong friends and was loved by many.
Eva Tarver is survived by her husband, Donald E. Tarver, Sr.; her children, Michaele L. Tarver, JD, Marian L. (Gary) Stocker, Donald E. Tarver II, MD, Monica L. (Andrew Kochanowski) Tarver, MBA and David E. F. Tarver; her grandchildren, Eva A. Roberson, Essie Y. Tarver, Jasmine J. Tarver and Avery Lee; in-laws, Marian (Tarver) Fisk, Bernard Tarver, and Marlene (Hall) Elliott. Eva is survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and other relatives.
