Esther I. Bryant's Obituary

Esther Ilena Bryant, affectionately known as "Lena or Grump," entered into this life on the 29h day of December, in 1933, born to the late Pastor Young Love and Esther Holsey, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the fifth of eight children. Esther attended school in her church. Rather you knew her as Lena, Grump, Grandma or Auntie, she was truly a blessing to know. She could be described as feisty, compassionate, strong, brave, outspoken, straight forward and caring. She never met a stranger. Grump was a friend to all and a "family" to most. Esther met Melvin Bryant in 1972. They were united in holy matrimony in 1980. They resided in Akron, Ohio. They remained married until his passing, in May of 2006. Esther was the mother of two well-loved children, one daughter, Esther R. Bromsey and one son, Jack Brown. She worked at Stouffers for many years. After working at Stouffers, she went on to work at the Racquetball Club, before retiring.  Esther enjoyed many aspects of her life. She loved to play cards, talking big mess, all while taking your coins. She had a vibrant spirit. Esther was the life of the party! She valued family gatherings where she could just sit around, talk and laugh with the ones she loved. She was one of the realest people you could ever meet. She was honest and kept it a buck with you! She "lived a good life!" she would tell you. She would often say, "Don't cry! Party and celebrate me!"  Grump was our Matriarch! When it came to serving the Lord, this was something that Esther loved to do! Raised the daughter of a Pastor, she confessed her life to Christ at a very early age and was baptized. She served and she definitely knew the word! She loved and cared for everyone. She was a family-oriented person. She would travel the world to check on her family, whether near or far! She was always visiting and taking care of her siblings and family. Grump had a "giving spirit." She would help you in any way. She would do without to help someone else. She would give you her last, but you'd better pay it back if you borrowed it!! If you needed a place to lay your head or something to sooth your hunger, her door was always open. She was a mother and a mentor to many people and a stranger to none.  Esther was wife of the founding member for the Cleveland chapter Zulu Motorcycle Club President, Melvin Bryant. He was also known as "Warlord." Warlord later transferred to become the Akron Zulu President. Grump served by his side as the Akron Zulu First lady, where they served together until his passing. Esther was known throughout the bike community as Grump or Mystery Lady. She loved motorcycles and to party with her MC Family! Esther loved to relax, experience her natural herbs and enjoy her Jack. She was not to be messed with, definitely a force to be reckoned with and was loved by the MC Community. She was "Good People!"  Esther lived nearly her last decade with her granddaughter, Tracy, who says that Grump was "her ROCK!" After many days of resting, God decided that He needed another angel to add to the Heavens. And, she was called home to glory Monday evening, on June 16th, 2025. Grump was a fighter! She lived an exciting and very valuable life before falling ill, but she never gave up. She passed in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones. She has completed her journey and has gone from labor to reward.  Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Pastor Young Love and Esther Hosley; her spouse, Melvin Bryant; her 7 siblings; Henrietta, Sammy, Bobby, Wynn and Nathan Hosley and Melissa Johnson (Herman) and Cora Davis (Llyod); Her daughter, Esther R. Bromsey (James Sr.), and her son, Jack Brown; her grandson, James Bromsey Jr.; and her great granddaughter, Treacy Bromsey.  Esther leaves to cherish her love and memories: her granddaughter, Tracy Gholston; her great grandchildren; Tinisha "Pooh" Gholston, Europe Bromsey, James "Doodles" Bromsey III, Emory Pope, Fredriania, Lawava and Fred Peoples; her special niece, Cheryl Singleton; her special great nieces, Alfreda, BobbiLynn, and Rietta Simmons; her granddaughter in love, Tomika Pope and a host of loved nieces, nephews, family and friends.
