Essie Brooks,93, affectionately known as "ESP", "Granny", "Auntie" and "Sis Brooks", departed this life November 14, 2025. She was born September 25, 1932, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Harrison and Tessie Baxter. Essie loved her entire family near and far, she dedicated her life to the Lord and encouraged her family, friends, and everyone she encountered to get saved.
Essie moved to Akron at an early age, where she became a member of the United Baptist Church. At the age of 15, she began her musical career, and she served as the musician at United Baptist Church. She continued to serve as a musician until she joined her son who pastored the Valley Baptist Church in Niles, Ohio in 1989. During that time, she continued to serve as a musician until her health failed her.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life Jimmie Brooks, her parents, Tessie and Harrison Baxter, sister, Mildred Franks, brothers, William Baxter, Harrison Baxter Jr., Jonathan Baxter, nephew, Willie Baxter, cousins, Pleasie Carroll, Alberta Jones, Wash Carroll Jr, Lubertha Mills.
She is survived by sons, Pastor Larry (Flora) Scott, Richard (Paulette) Gamble, grandchildren, Leslie (Garey) Harris, Latrena Scott, Latoya(Erick) Fuqua, Lauren(Kevin)Brown, great grandchildren, Kya, Kevin Jr, William (special nephew), Kennedy, Nova, Karter, great great grandchildren, Janai, Kevin III, Kordae, special cousin Dorothy Pearson, special friends, Laurethia Taylor ,Doris Turner, Doris Griggs and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends
