(Winn) Lockett
November 28, 1928 – October 15, 2023
THE LATE ELLA (ELLIE) MAE WINN LOCKETT was born in Dooly County, Vienna Georgia on November 28, 1928, to Willie B., Sr. and Leathie Winn. She was the third child of six children. She departed this earthly life on October 15, 2023, at home.
Early in life, Ellie professed her trust in Christ, and on December 1, 1940, she was baptized at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. She served on multiple church ministries, which included the food preparation committee, Deaconess Board, and others as well. Ellie attended and graduated from Central High School.
On April 20, 1959, Ellie was joined in holy matrimony with the love of her life Jerome Lockett, who proceeded her in death in 2021. They were blessed with five daughters (Sharon, Le Ann, Becky, Jan and Janet.)
Ellie was a beloved member of the community and touched the lives of many.
She enjoyed volunteering with numerous organizations, traveling, going to casinos, cooking, hosting, and entertaining family gatherings. She was a huge Cleveland Cavaliers basketball fan and a member of the LeBron James "Grandmother's Club" in addition to many other clubs. She retired from the Summit County Welfare office.
Ellie was preceded in death by her husband: Jerome, parents, Willie B. and Leathie Winn, Sr.; three brothers, two sisters, and granddaughter Keisha Short.
On Friday, October 27, 2023, Ellie Winn Lockett will be laid to rest next to her loving husband of 62 years and leaves a legacy of love and inspiration to mourn her passing: Sharon (Henry) Robinson, Jacksonville, FL: Le Ann (Frank) Lane, Akron, OH: Becky Short, Akron, OH: Jan (Dave) Austin, Norfolk, VA: Janet Lockett, Fayetteville, NC: nine grandchildren: twenty great grandchildren: seven great-great grandchildren: special niece Erika James: special friend, Bambi Crenshaw: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will mourn her passing.
