Obituary

Elder Henry Jordan, Jr. was born on January 14, 1931 in Clarksdale, MS to Henry Jordan, Sr. and Ethel L. Jordan.  He was the first son of their thirteen children.

Henry grew from sharecropping with his parents and siblings, to serving in the U.S Army, where he accepted Christ while loading ammunition on the battlefield of the Korean War.

After the war, he returned to the States and moved to Ohio with his best friend and sister, Dazell. There he met and married his adored and cherished wife of over 60 years, Gwendolyn.  To this union, three children were born, Henry W., Barbara, and Gloria.

Henry retired from Babcock & Wilcox as an industrial machinist.  He kept busy with side jobs and hobbies, such as rebuilding cars, and "flipping" houses with his brother Ollie. He loved working in his garden, and could walk for miles!

Henry had a matchless sense of humor! He loved to joke, prank, laugh—and let's not forget—tickle! He was humble, wise and treated everything and everyone with loving kindness.

Elder Jordan was a faithful, lifelong, member of St. Ashworth Temple C.O.G.I.C. where he was a bible scholar and mentor, who loved sharing the Word of God.  He was a devoted teacher of countless bible study and Sunday School classes.

Elder Jordan was called home to be with the Lord on the evening of January 28, 2021.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn C. Jordan; daughter, Barbara J. Vardiman; father, Henry Jordan, Sr; mother, Ethel L. Jordan; sisters, Dazell Cheatham and Erma Gray; brothers, James Jordan, Willie Jordan, Theodore Jordan, Ollie Jordan, Ben Jordan and Richard Jordan.

He leaves to cherish his memory son, Henry W. Jordan, daughter Gloria D. Jordan; granddaughter Melissa F. Edwards, great-granddaughter Liliana F. Ogunyemi, siblings Claudie (Charlie) Howard, Bobbie Chambers, and Verdell Jordan of Milwaukee, WI, Ernestine Hill of Rochester, NY and a host of  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
