Obituary

Cleveland Battle, Jr. 66 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center, Canton, Ohio after an extended illness.  Cleveland "Cassie"was born January 14, 1951 to the late Cleveland & Martha Battle. Cleveland was a 1969 graduate of Lincoln High School and a graduate of Malone College.  He retired as a supervisor for the State of Ohio Bureau of Rehabiliation Services.  Cleveland enjoyed his family and he was a great griller and fish fryer.  He would often travel the countryside on his motorcycle to see what was at the end of the road. Eld. Cleveland Battle accepted the Lord in 1977 under the leadership of the late Eld. Wright Byrom at St. Paul COGIC.  He was ordained as an Elder in 2004 by the late Bishop Warren Miller.  Eld. Battle, Eld. Jesse Evans, Jr. along with the late Supt. Martin Smith was best known as the "Mighty Sons of Thunder".  This title was bestowed upon them by their pastor the late Pastor, Eld. Wright Byrom at St. Paul COGIC. Eld. Cleveand Battle was a member of Light in Christ Ministries under the leadership of Pastors Raphael & Mary Cox. Cleveland was married to the love of his life Cheryl Jackson on September 24, 1988.  To this union they had one daughter, Kimberli Cherise. In addition to his parents Cleveland is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Supt. Martin Smith. Cleveland was survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Cheryl and their loving daughter, Kimberli; one sister, Suzette Smith; (2) brothers, Charles (Debra)Battle, Alfred Battle all of Canton;Family in Love, Dad-James Jackson; sisters, Rhonda (Ben)Ferguson, Linda Jackson, Veronica Ford, Frances Young; brothers, Jeff (Marchelle) Jackson, James (Wanda) Jackson;  cousins raised as siblings, Lindsey (Barbara)Burton, Nathaniel Burton, & Connie King Cleveland and Cheryl touched the lives of many and took as their own, Daniel (Dontia) Battle, Jessica Battle, Olivia, Kylee, Craig (Jessiah), Jeremiah all of Massillon and special son, Philip Pleasant, Johnson FL .  As well as a large host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
