Duval
Flippen
May 3, 1943 – July 23, 2023
In Loving Memory of Duval Peyton Flippen Duval Peyton Flippen, lovingly known as "Dad," left us on Sunday, July 23, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 80 years old.
Duval came into this world on May 3, 1943, in Roanoke, Virginia, the cherished child of Mary Alexander Flippen and Thomas L. Flippen Sr. At a young age, he answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Army, where he became a skilled Paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division. In 1964, he was honorably discharged, having served his nation with pride. After his military service, Duval dedicated himself to a successful career at Ravenna Arsenal, and later at Kent State University, where he worked as a Custodial Manager for 30 years, where he then retired from.
Duval's presence in the neighborhood was a constant source of joy and comfort. He loved sitting on his porch, watching the world go by, and indulging in simple pleasures like reading the newspaper. Every Friday night was a special occasion as he cooked chicken and jojos for his family or pizza nights. But above all, he cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, creating beautiful memories that will be treasured forever.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Alexander Flippen and Thomas L. Flippen Sr., along with his siblings Robert L. Flippen, Osborne E. Flippen, Thomas L. Flippen Jr., Wilfred Flippen, Brenda Powell, and Joyce Holmes. His daughter, Tonya Durham, great-grandson Cordea, nephew James Hickman, and niece Doretha Eaves.
Duval leaves behind a legacy of love, and his memory will forever be cherished by his children Lynn, Sharon, William "Billy" (Joy), Karla, Andre, Taneisha, Steven, and Fernando. He will also be remembered by his siblings Andrew, Spencer, Delma, and Doris. Duval's spirit will live on through his grandchildren Sheree, Tyana, Brianna, DaizJane, Datwoine, Narissa, Dailyn, Dailee, Anthony, Adrian, Terence, Betina, Myles, Cameron, Kinslee, Sherika, Jonius, Yoko, Derrick, and D'yor, along with 15 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends whose lives were touched by his warm and caring nature.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered their thoughts, condolences, and prayers during this difficult time. Your support has been a source of strength and comfort as we mourn the loss of our beloved Duval.
In our hearts, he will forever reside, and his legacy of love, strength, and kindness will continue to inspire us all. May his soul find eternal peace.
