Dorothy Lee Massey went home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2015 after a battle with cancer. She was born on November 2, 1918 in Union County, North Carolina to Jesse J. Ashcraft and Lula Lillie McGill. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Thomas M. Massey, daughter Carolyn Crenshaw, and her sister Ethello Hopper. Dorothy grew up in Wingate, NC where she met the love of her life, Thomas and had two sons born during this period of her life. Dorothy and her family later relocated to Winston-Salem, NC and the family continued to grow with the addition of another son and daughter. After five years in Winston-Salem, Dorothy and Thomas decided to follow the extended family up North for better opportunities. The family moved first to Malvern, Ohio and shortly thereafter they moved to Waynesburg, Ohio. In order to be closer to his employment, Thomas relocated the family to Canton, Ohio.

She was currently a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church under Reverand Anderson where she continued to sing praises to the Lord until she became ill. Dorothy said, "I BELIEVE IN SERVING GOD. THIS IS MY FAITH, MY BELIEF. IN SERVING GOD'S WORD, IF THINGS GO RIGHT WITH ME HEAVEN WILL BE MY HOME."
Over the years, Dorothy has been the President of various organizations that helped feed the young and the old. Up until she became ill, she served as a caregiver to the ELDERLY. Dorothy worked up until she was 95 years old. Dorothy enjoyed taking friends on bus trips to many cities both in and out of the country. She loved all people and enjoyed putting a smile on their faces. Dorothy was a member of the Eastern Star.
