Dorothy Mae Jones was born on November 29, 1937.  She passed away suddenly on April 13, 2013 at the age of 75. Dorothy was born in Enterprise, Alabama to the late Reather Kelley. At the age of nine she moved to Canton, Ohio, where she resided until her death.  Dorothy was a 1957 graduate of Canton McKinley High School. Dorothy was married for 55 years to her loving husband and best friend Michael Jones.  They had four children:  Michael Jr., Mark, Anthony and Celletta.  Dorothy and Michael also welcomed George Foster into their family and became his legal guardians. Dorothy worked as an assistant teacher for the State Department of Education for nearly twenty years and as a home health aide for Canton Health Care and Midwest.  She also worked for ABCD, Inc., a non-profit community development corporation, where she was instrumental in establishing the organization's first credit union. Dorothy was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and served in the church's Old Timers Women's Auxiliary Club.  She participated in many community activities through the club, including serving meals to the homeless.  She was also a devoted church usher for over twenty years. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.  She loved a great laugh and her life's passion was her family.  She never failed to put the needs of her loved ones ahead of her own.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She provided for them as though they were her own, and they never wanted for anything. Her home is a living tribute to the tremendous love she had for her family.  The house is filled with pictures of Dorothy's friends and relatives.  Each photo is thoughtfully placed and lovingly displayed in every room in the house, and each one tells a vivid story about her family history.  Anyone who walks into Dorothy's home will immediately understand that her love for her family was infinite. Dorothy also loved elephants and was an avid collector.  Among the many pictures of her family were images and miniature statues of elephants.  She purchased some, but many were gifts from those who knew how much she liked them. Dorothy was also a hard worker.  She gave her best every day at home and at work.  She was always on time and rarely called in sick.  After a full day at work, she came home to care for her family, and for several years until her death she was a devoted caregiver to her husband.  Despite her busy schedule she never missed anyone's birthday.  Her beautiful cards always arrived on time, and everyone who got them recognized the familiar handwriting on the envelope because Dorothy never, ever forgot. Dorothy was predeceased by her mother, Reather Kelley; sons Michael Jr. and Mark; aunt Mattie Kelley; uncle Joe Nathan Kelley; and brother LeRoy Newman. She is survived by her loving husband Michael of Canton, Ohio; children Anthony and Celletta Jones of Canton, Ohio; brother George Edward Kelley of Morristown, New Jersey; sisters Mattie Harper, Geraldine Newman, and Jenny McNeal, all of Ozark, Alabama; sister Fara Newman of Chicago; five grandchildren:  Chasity, Precious, Bryant, Oreon and Keimani, all of Canton, Ohio; daughter-in-law Jalene Jones of Canton, Ohio, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives of whom she was very fond.
