Diana (Williams) Faniel's Obituary

Diana Williams Faniel received her heavenly wings on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Affectionately known as "Di-Di" and "Big Diane", she was cherished by many for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering spirit.

Born on August 31, 1947, to the late Edgar and Lettie Fay Henry Williams, Diana grew up in Canton, Ohio, where she graduated with honors from Canton Mckinley High School, Class of 1965. A proud Bulldog, she excelled academically and embraced life with joy-roller skating, playing volleyball, and sewing as a young girl. In adulthood, she found delight in gardening, decorating her home, and crafting festive Christmas wreaths.

In 1975, Diana married Jessie Faniel, and together they built a loving family with two beautiful children, Monique and Corey.  Her professional journey began as an X-Ray Technician at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio before relocating to Los Angeles in 1972.  Diana's passion for health and wellness led her to become a dedicated researcher and advocate, often challenging medical teams with her insightful questions and deep knowledge.

She was a proud and active member of the San Gabriel Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., and a beloved member of Sistah Girls. Diana accepted Christ at an early age and sang in both church and citywide choirs at Mt. Calvary 2nd Missionary Baptist Church in Canton. Upon moving to California, she continued her faith journey with the Metropolitan Baptist Church, New Life Evangelistic Church, and ultimately Victory Bible Church (Charter member), where she served faithfully as the director of the Agape Ministry-offering welcoming hugs and heartfelt love to all who entered.

Diana was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister Karen, sister, Abrigail "Toni" and Shirlene "Bubbles", nephew William D. Wallace "Stuffy", brother-in-law Daniel C. Summers, and dear friend Valris Carter.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through her children: Monique Williams of Altadena, CA and Corey Faniel of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren: Joshua Stewart-Faniel, Mailani, Jamailyn, Lola Faniel, and Bianca Williams-Alonzo; sisters: Idella Williams, Johnetta (Raymond) Williams, and Elizabeth Williams Summers of Canton, OH; nieces: Danielle Summers and Adonnica Summers; nephews: Radames Williams, Jerome Jones, Rashad Summers, William Summers, and Dontaryl (Rachelle) Summers; great-nephews: Naz-yiere, Jordan, Alex, Dontaryl Jr., and Kaydan Summers; great-nieces: Jaiah Jones, Selena, and Malia Summers. Diana also remained close to her former husband, Jessie Faniel, and his family, who continue to honor her memory.

Though Diana will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, we find comfort in knowing that "it is well with her soul.' Her life was a testament to love, faith, and service.

She fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith.

May we carry forward the example she set and honor her legacy in all we do.
