Dessie L (Curry) Garrett, born 11/21/1942, passed away on 11/10/25 unexpectedly. Dessie was born in Canton, Ohio and was a graduate of Mckinley High School. Dessie was employed by The Timken Company, the Stark County welfare office, The State of Ohio (Multi County), and also post-retirement opened "An Open Door Child Care Center". Dessie also operated a Food and Clothing Ministry. She was a member of the Gate of Heaven Church. Dessie was preceded in death by her parents Theotis Curry II and Dessie (Parker) Curry, her sister Carol Armstead, her brother Theotis Curry III, and a son Jerald F. Garrett as well as sister and brothers in law Rosetta (John) Small, Mose (Joyce) Garrett, Jasper (Hosea) Garrett. Survivors include her husband Fred Garrett Jr., children Barry L. Garrett, Lisa (Leroy) Smith, Jermaine (Jennifer) Garrett and Gary (Shereece) Garrett. Dessie also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren including Barry Marcus, Joy, Brina, Sierra, Brandon (Nicole), Dessia, Marcel, Malia (Tanner), Lameir, Dayjour and Darius. She leaves behind her sisters Vanzetta Evans, Gloria Stokes, Pauline Downing, as well as sister in law Alice Curry. Dessie also leaves behind numerous great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews and special friends Lorainne Garrett and Sylvia Brown. Dessie was cherished by her family and close friends. Those that knew her, knew that she was a powerful woman that belonged to God. She was faithful in serving the Lord and her community for years.
