Deloris A.
Johnson
June 4, 1943 – January 1, 2023
Deloris A. Johnson, age 79, transitioned from this life into eternity during the early morning hours of January 1, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with COPD. She was born, Deloris Ann McAlpine, in the city of Akron, Ohio on June 4, 1943 to loving parents Frank and Sallie McAlpine Jr. She enjoyed a happy childhood as one of twelve children. While in Akron, she continued to flourish and graduated in 1962 from North High School. In the late 1960s, she would follow the path forged by her siblings and move to Newark, New Jersey. It was there, she would meet the love of her life, Phillip Louis Johnson and they would marry on August 6, 1970. Shortly thereafter, they would build on their union with the arrival of a daughter, Kendra Lalanie Johnson. She proved to be an outstanding wife and mother. Life in Newark, opened up her life long career path as an STNA. For Deloris, this was not just a job but a passion where she also developed enduring friendship with the women of A4. She rendered 26 years of dedicated service to Newark Beth Israel Hospital.
In the early 1990s, Deloris left the turbulence of big city life to return to the comforts of her midwestern home. This did not cause her calling of service to falter. She would become and active member of Good Shephard Baptist Church and head of their nurse's guild. Mrs. Johnson would also continue on her career path working at Pebble Creek followed by eight (8) years at Akron General Hospital. A work related injury would move her into early retirement. She continued to enjoy the simple pleasures of laughter and fellowship with family. As her health declined her spirit remained fiercely resilient. She was a proponent of truth and lived by the motto "Say what you mean and mean what you say". Deloris Johnson's life was one of service and dedication. She loved, the Lord, she loved her work and she loved her family, most especially, her daughter Kendra.
She was proceeded in death by parents, Frank and Sallie McAlpine Jr., siblings Andrew McAlpine, Otis(Marie) McAlpine, Velma(Sylvester) Pierce, Mary Conway, Shirley Key, Catherine(Odell) Jerels, Elizabeth McAlpine and Deloris's husband, Phillip Johnson.
She leaves to mourn daughter, Kendra Lalanie Johnson, siblings Ida(Roland) Cobbs, Henry(Carolyn) McAlpine, Marie(Sylvester) Morgan, William(Bonita) McAlpine and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
