Deloris Evans' Obituary

Mrs. Deloris Evans, affectionately known as Lois, was born on December 2, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Alice Blair and Rev. Herbert Hilton. In 1945, she moved with her parents to Akron, Ohio, where she received her elementary and secondary education in the Akron Public Schools, attending Bryant Elementary, West Junior High School, and South High School.

In 1959, Deloris was united in holy matrimony to John Preston Evans Sr. Together, they built a loving home and welcomed four children: Sharlene, Deborah, Jonilon, and John Jr. With a generous and open heart, Deloris also lovingly embraced Preston's older daughter, Rene', making their blended family complete.

Deloris devoted her life to Christ at an early age and was a dedicated member of St. Paul FBH Church in Akron, where she served the Lord with gladness. Her faith guided every aspect of her life, shaping her into a woman of compassion, strength, and unwavering commitment to others.

She was employed at Akron City Hospital for more than 21 years. After retiring, Deloris continued her lifelong calling of caring for others by becoming a foster mother. Over the course of twenty years, she opened her home and heart to more than 100 foster children. Among the many she nurtured, two sisters—Tyrece and Lyreece—captured her heart, and Deloris joyfully adopted them into the family.

Her dedication as a foster parent was recognized in 2010, when the Children's Services Board of Summit County honored her as Foster Parent of the Year. This acknowledgment reflected the deep love, stability, and heart-centered care she offered to every child who entered her home.

Lois enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies that brought joy to her and those around her. She loved fishing with her sister Gladys and playing cards with her sisters Lydia, Connie, Pam, and Ann, as well as with her children. Her favorite pastime was attending antique auctions—shopping at yard sales, discovering hidden treasures, and delighting in the simple joys of life. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, often creating spaces that reflected her warmth and creativity. Known for her exceptional cooking, she often teamed with her sisters and daughters to cater local events throughout the Akron area.

A woman of profound generosity, deep faith, and boundless love, Deloris touched countless lives. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the many foster children she guided, and all who were blessed to know her. Her spirit of kindness and service will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved her.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, John Preston Evans Sr.; her parents, Rev. Herbert Hilton and Alice (Emma) Hilton; her brothers, Herbert Hilton Jr., Lee Ernest Hilton, and Charles Hilton; her sisters, Margaret Ann Smith and Victoria Hilton; and her great-granddaughter, Jabrayla J Fletcher.

She leaves to mourn her transition, her children, Sharlene, Deborah, Jonilon, John Jr, Rene', Tyrece, and Lyreece. Her grandchildren: Michael, Capree, Lorland, Cory, Brittney, Brandon, Brianna, Antoino, Asjli, Charles, Jhanae, Jada, Lil' John, and Johnelle. Her 8 sisters: Gladys, Geraldine, Lydia, LaVern, Connie, Henrietta, Pam, and Doris. Her beloved brother Gerald and Dale.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
