Delores
Hammond
September 27, 1942 – December 1, 2025
Delores Hammond, 83, went home to be with the Lord on December 1, 2025. The second eldest of twelve children, she was born on September 27, 1942, in Canton, Ohio to the late John and Viola (Winn) Bush. A lifelong resident of Canton, Delores attended Canton City Schools and graduated from McKinley High School in 1960. After graduating, Delores dedicated 34 years of service to the Hoover Company, where she made many friends and proudly served as union steward. She was known for her strength, leadership, and unwavering commitment to fairness — qualities that made her a respected presence both at work and within her community. A natural caretaker and the beloved matriarch of her family, Delores brought people together through her exceptional cooking. She enjoyed perfecting new recipes, baking, grilling, and sharing laughs over home-cooked meals with those she loved. Among her greatest loves were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She held each of them close to her heart, and her happiest moments were spent with them gathered for holidays at her home. Delores took her role as a grandmother seriously, and she never missed an opportunity to bestow wisdom, care, and affection that only a grandmother can provide. Delores' faith was central to her life. She was formerly a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she served as a trustee and on the culinary committee. She later became a faithful member of Union Baptist Church, where she regularly attended Sunday school and Bible study. Visiting those who were sick or residing in nursing homes became her personal ministry—a reflection of her generous heart and deep compassion for others. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Willie Bush and John (Renda) Bush Jr., and her beloved son, Vaughn Hammond. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Damon (Denise) Hammond and Rodney Hammond; siblings, Barbara Smith, Curtis Bush, Shirley (Willie) Boyd, Oliver (Georgia) Bush, Michael (Beverly) Bush, Cynthia (Steve) Mathis, Ronald (Dorothy) Bush, Yvonne Bush, and Al Bush; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
