Deborah L. Blackmon Smith, 62, passed away peacefully on Friday October 18th, 2024.
She was born October 16th, 1962, in Akron, Ohio to the late William Anthony King and Ruby D. Blackmon-Walker. Deborah received Christ as her personal Savior and worked for the Lord until he called her home.
While she was a proud Butchel Griffin, Deb ultimately graduated from McKinley High School in 1982. She was a proud athlete and cheerleading coach and a jack of all trades. She was former truck driver and a security officer amongst many careers but spent most of her professional life at General Electric Card Services, now Synchrony Bank for over 20 years. In her retirement, she served as a greeter and sales associate for Sam's club.
Both community and civic minded, Deb volunteered for the past 10 years as an election judge. She was a staple volunteer for the Pro-Football Hall of Fame festival, serving as a lead hostess for the enshrinement for more than a decade. Deb was an avid supporter of domestic violence survivors and for the past several years led a women's bible study via Facebook and in the community.
A lover of animals and a birthday celebration, she modeled the transformational power of friendship and love. June 22, 2013, she married Harlod Smith of Canton Ohio.
A loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and wife, she is preceded in death by her grandparents.
Deb is survived by her husband Harold Smith, Her mother Ruby D. Blackmon-Walker. Her beautiful children, Daughter Chianti Blackmon and Son, De'Arron (Courtney) Nelson. Her grandchildren, Sydney, Sasha and De'Arron Nelson, Jr. Her siblings; Anthony (Andrea) Blackmon, Rev Robert (Adena) Beach, David (Doroeathea) Beach, Angela Walker, Freddie (Tamesha) Walker and Latoya Walker. She is also survived by a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless dear friends.
