Cornell
Johnson
September 18, 1954 – February 15, 2025
Cornell Johnson entered this world on September 18, 1954, brought into the loving embrace of his mother, Ethel Johnson. In his formative years, he was raised by his father, Thomas Mais. Cornell's life was a testament to love, compassion and good spirit.
During his early years, Cornell's home was in the Garden Valley community. His zest for life was evident in his passions for playing football, basketball, enjoying music, and cooking.
His passion for cooking blossomed in Akron, and he took great pride in his pitmaster skills, delighting friends and family with his barbecue. He worked in maintenance for various companies in Cleveland, providing for his family with hard work. His journey took him to Jacksonville, Florida, for a short time, but he ultimately returned to Ohio, where he settled in Akron.
Akron became a pivotal chapter in Cornell's life. It was here that he and his beloved partner, Carmen, created a home together. Akron was also where he served God and his community. Cornell's spiritual journey led him to be ordained as a Deacon at the New Exodus Christian Fellowship Church of Akron, Ohio. His sense of humor and generosity left an indelible mark on the people he met.
Cornell is survived by his cherished partner, Carmen, and is fondly remembered by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As the second of seven children, Cornell now joins his siblings, Dwaine Johnson and Thomas Mais Jr., and two wives in eternal rest.
Cornell leaves behind a loving family, including Shepard Mais, Andrean Mais, Louis Charles Mais, Aveia (Mais) Morris, and numerous nieces (Tracey, Stacey, Aveia, Jessica, and Lauren), nephews (Michael, Phillip, and Shepard Jr.), cousins, relatives, and friends who celebrate his life and legacy.
