Clora Mae
Yarbrough
September 30, 1932 – July 24, 2024
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Clora M. Yarbrough, loving mother, sister, and friend passed away at age 91 in New Albany, Indiana. Clora was born on September 30, 1932, to Fadie (G.Henry) Miller in Wynne, Arkansas. At a young age, she moved to Akron, Ohio with her parents. During her young adult life, Clora M. Yarbrough formed lasting friendships with remarkable women in the church body. Clora and her dear friend, Mother Deborah Walker Scruggs (or "Bo" to those who know her) became friends at Wooster Avenue Temple COGIC in Akron, Ohio. Raising their children during this friendship, some of their children became friends also. When asked about their relationship, Mother Scruggs replied they were "dear friends from way back, down through the years! It was like a generational family tradition, starting with our saved, actively church-going parents who became friends in the church. The scripture says train up a child in the way they should go and that's what our families did while mixing fun and laughter with it!" Many years later, Clora would work diligently with Missionary Maxine Magee throughout Southern California to rebuild and form new congregations in many willing and unwilling communities. With their families in tow and under God's protection, Mother Clora and Mother Maxine were very successful in their endeavors. The two continued this practice even after returning to Mississippi in the late 1970's. Their friendship was extraordinary indeed. Clora was the spouse of Willie Yarbrough who preceded her in death. She was mother to Sidney Yarbrough and Arthur Keven Yarbrough who also preceded her in death. Clora is survived by her remaining children, Angela Merechant, Sylvia Smith, Anthony (Carol) Yarbrough, and Sharese Parham as well as her brother, W. Ray (Betty) Miller and sister, Leola Payne. She has a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as a beloved nephew, nieces, cousins, and an abundance of friends.
