Christy Dionne Wilkinson of Akron, OH, departed this world on May 9, 2026, after a courageous battle with end-stage kidney disease. She was born on November 25, 1971, in Clarksburg, WV to Mavis Hairston-Wilkinson and Mike (Mary) Cox. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles (Jeanette) Wilkinson, Harold Cox, and Katherine Jenkins Cox Shields. Aunts and uncles Donna Kay Watkins and Linda Cox Black, David Wilkinson, James Wilkinson, Keith Cox, and James Cox.
Christy leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving daughter, Briana Wilkinson of Akron, Ohio. Also surviving to celebrate her life are siblings; Anita (Desmond) Triplin of Johnstown, PA, Dawn Hairston, Cicily Cox and Justin Cox all of Clarksburg, WV, and Mitchell (Sarah) Hairston of Lenoir, NC; nieces and nephews, Mckennah, Morgan, Dakota, Stella, Rue, Jordan, Davon, and Bryce; aunts and uncles Sheila Hill of Akron, OH, Debbie Cox and David (Jodi) Cox of Longs, SC, Timothy Wilkinson of Parkersburg, WV, Jeanette Walker, Dale Cox, Doug (Cindy) Wilkinson, Tinsley (Barbara) Wilkinson and Vonnie Shields all of Clarksburg, WV. Her life was shaped by the love and guidance of her family.
Christy graduated from Liberty High School in 1991 and later pursued a degree in medical assisting from Brown Mackie College in 2010. For 15 years, she was a dedicated employee at the Akron Beacon Journal, where her kindness left a mark on colleagues and friends. She absolutely loved animals, especially her dog (Boomer Dionne Wilkinson). She had a love for traveling, music, being out in the sunshine, and the simple joy of spending time with her family and friends. Known for her smile that could light up a room, she had a heart full of love that even amidst her own struggles, she offered words of comfort to those in need.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the ICU nurses and doctors of Akron General Hospital, whose care and compassion made Christy's last days comfortable and memorable. Special thanks are also extended to the Rhoden Memorial Team for their kindness and support during this difficult time.
Christy's life was a testament to love, courage, and the enduring power of a generous spirit. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, as we find comfort in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
