Chester Eugene
Brown, Sr.
April 14, 1932 – August 16, 2025
Elder Chester Eugene Brown was born on April 14, 1932, in Canton, Ohio to Theodore Roosevelt Brown and Bessie Mae Brown. He was blessed with 14 siblings. He departed this life on August 16, 2025, surrounded by his family. He met Gloria Wright in 2005, and they were married on November 2, 2007. Elder Brown was an entrepreneur and started many companies. He founded and operated the first black owned sign painting company called "Chet the Jet" Signs; and in 1964 Governor James A. Rhodes approved a six-month vocational course in sign painting and design, which he taught at the Ohio State Penitentiary. He also founded the first black owned Hot Rod Club in Canton and was the first physically challenged lifeguard in Canton at Jackson Park swimming pool. On May 29, 1969, the late Elder James Gregory baptized him in the Name of Jesus and he received the Holy Ghost speaking in other tongues as the spirit of God gave the utterance. Elder Brown was instrumental in his mother and many of his siblings being saved. He was ordained an Elder in 1973 by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. at Bethel Apostolic Church, Canton, Ohio. Beginning in 1970, Elder Brown had a heart for the prison ministry. He began A.I.M., Apostolic Institution Ministry in Akron, Ohio and "Straight Talk" prison ministry at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church, Canton. He then went on from 1970 until 2019 preaching and teaching in the State of Ohio Adult and Juvenile prisons. This took him from Lorain to Lucasville baptizing many souls in the Name of Jesus. Also, during this time from 1999 until 2019 he preached in Federal prisons in Morgantown, West Virgina and Elkton, Ohio. With the assistance and support from Chaplain Johnson at Elkton, they baptized over 2.000 inmates in the Name of Jesus. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Idell White, Raymond Agustus Brown, Theodore Roosevelt Brown, Jr, Daniel Brown, Israel Brown, Ira Mae Brown Risby, Vivian Brown Jenkins, Marion Connor, Benny Connor, Leon Connor and one stepson, Stephen Hardin. Elder Brown leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Gloria Brown; one son, Chester (Angela) Muhammad; one daughter, Tracy Muhammad; sisters, Evelyn (Henry) Henderson and Melinda Williams of Canton, Gwendolyn Ladson of Iowa; one brother, James Connor; two stepsons, Aaron (Kathy) Williams, Claude (Roslyn) Brown and one stepdaughter, Jestina Williams. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great and great, great grandchildren, along with many cousins, other relatives and friends.
