Obituary

Our beloved Charlie Ed Glenn, age 88 of Akron Ohio, departed for his heavenly home on Thursday, May 16, 2019. Born February 29, 1931 to Enoch and Mary Glenn in Brooksville, Mississippi.

Charlie valued his family, hard work and education. At the age of eight he began working in a wood mill where he saved enough money to buy his first bicycle. He walked four miles to and from school until he left school to help run the family farm. He met his spouse, Cherry Lou Malone, at Mount Avery Baptist church; married her in 1956; and they moved to Akron, Ohio in 1957. He began his career as a tire builder at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he served for over 40 years.

Charlie enjoyed gardening where he grew the best cabbage, collard greens and green beans. He also cooked some slamming cabbage and corn bread when he took over cooking duty post retirement. He was a sports enthusiast. He loved rooting on the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He also enjoyed horse racing and game shows.

Charlie was survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Cherry Lou Glenn, his five children: Charles Glenn, Eric (Angela) Glenn, Zenele (Vince) Lester, Walter (Kristin) Glenn, Craig Glenn, and ten grandchildren: Asia Glenn, Eric Glenn Jr, Christopher Glenn, Autumn Glenn, Troy Glenn, Taelor Lester, Elijah Glenn, Vincent Lester Jr, JC Glenn and Niyah Lester. He also leaves behind his brother R.B. Glenn of Brooksville, MS; sisters, Margie Hankins and Lynn Robinson both of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
