Catherine (Anderson) Wooten's Obituary

Catherine "Kate" or "Katie" (Anderson) Wooten was born September 12, 1935, in Sutton, West Virginia, to the late John Henry Anderson and Elsie Anderson. She passed away May 17, 2024, at Rose Lane – Sprenger Healthcare, Massillon Ohio.

Kate went to school in Sutton, West Virginia, where she won a coveted "Golden Horseshoe Award", which was presented to her by the governor of the state of West Virginia. She graduated from Simmons High School, in Fayette County West Virginia, where she met her future husband, Sergeant Robert F. Wooten.

Soon after marriage, Sergeant Wooten was stationed in Frankfort, Germany, and lived there with his new wife. Kate enjoyed life in Frankfort, making friends with other Army wives. After returning to the United States, divorced Kate set about making a life for herself and her two young daughters in Sutton West Virginia. She was especially proud of the trailer she purchased for her small family. She raised her daughters, with the help of her parents; and when they graduated high school and moved to Canton Ohio, they brought her to Canton to be near

them. While living in Canton, OH, Kate worked for the Central Trust Company and the New Market Hilton until her retirement. In her later years, she lived at Rose Lane – Sprenger where she loved and was beloved by the staff and residents alike. Kate was very competitive with her Rose Lane friends in cards and bingo. She was president of the Residents Council and was the "unofficial seamstress".

From early on, she developed a passion for sewing. She made clothing for her daughters when they were young, and she often took in sewing and mending jobs. As a single mother, she became a jack of all trades. She did everything from being a home room mother, and canning apples, to cutting grass with a sickle, and tarring the roof on her trailer.

Kate was the beloved mother of Mary (Darryl) Moore and the late Kathy (Fred) Young. She loved her grandson Darryl Moore Jr. (the "apple of her eye") and her great granddaughter Adrienne Bernice Moore. She always had ice cream on hand when Adrienne came to visit. She was a sister to her late in-laws, Willie L and Bernice Moore, and her dear friend, the late, Thelma Dobbins of Sutton, West Virginia

Kate was preceded in death by her brothers, Pastor Joe Anderson and Richard Anderson. She is survived by her brothers, John Anderson and Donald Anderson; her sisters, Florence Turner and Dorothy (John) Wade; and her sister-in-law, Carol Anderson, wife of Pastor Anderson. Kate will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
