Catherine Elizabeth Strain was born to Isham and Minnie Kimbrough in Marenga County, Alabama. She was a member of the Bethel CME Church of Canton, and was the best member of the Hattie Brown Women's Federated Club. Mrs. Strain was a resident of Canton for 48 years. She taught in the Canton Public Schools (Lathrop, Martin Elementary, Hartford Jr. High and McKinley Sr. High School). She served as Director of PACS (Program for Academic Excellence). She was a graduate of Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama, an alumni of Kent State University, and she also graduated and worked at The University of Akron and the University of Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Strain was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Isham Jr., Sylvester, Elvin, Leroy, Tommie and Calvin.; one sister, Mattie Carr. She is survived by her daughter, Lenora and her son Raymond both of Canton, as well as her son Douglas Strain of Gastonia, N.C. ; two granddaughters, Catherine and Keisha; two grandsons, Raymond Strain and Leroy Huntley, as well as her great grandchildren; one brother, Harold Kimbrough of Columbus, OH. "Aunt Kitty" as she was called , maintained close family ties with many nephews, nieces and cousins. She is loved by many residents of Canton and with many she offered tutoring and guidance throughout the years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
