Carl D. Hye's Obituary

Today, we celebrate the life of Carl Dimitris Hye, 51, who departed this life on Sunday, May 5, 2024 in Akron, Ohio. Born on September 17, 1972, in Massillon, Ohio, Carl was the son of Sherry Marie Lowder and Edwin Lee Hye Jr. Carl enjoyed reading, writing, traveling, playing chess, drawing, fishing, and teaching. He was a graduate of Massillon High School, where he was a standout as a nose guard in football. Upon graduation, Carl enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably, achieving the rank of Corporal. Later, he pursued a degree in Business Management from Stark State in North Canton, Ohio, and attended New Testament Christian College in Washington State. A vibrant and extroverted individual, Carl was known for his ambition, compassion, creativity, and analytical mind. He approached life with spontaneity and optimism while also displaying a reserved and innovative demeanor. Carl had a great sense of humor, yet tough and serious when needed. Devoted to his faith, Carl was actively involved in several churches, including Pavilion of the Lord, Faith Tabernacle Church, and True Church House of Prayer to All Nations, serving as a pastor and minister and Friendship Baptist Church, where he was a member. He was also engaged in community service, including volunteering at the Total Living Center and Astoria Nursing Home, as well as speaking at events such as the Martin Luther King celebration. Carl is survived by his father, Edwin L. Hye Jr., his spouse, Valerie Hye, and his children Zachariah Hye, Arayah Hye, and Noel Hatfield. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sherry Marie Lowder, his stepmother, Joyce Stinson-Hye, and his grandparents.
