Jr.

Booker J. Long, Sr. of Canton, Ohio, passed away on January 3, 2026. He was born on August 1, 1941, in Prattville, Alabama to Booker T. Long, Sr. and Hatte Mae Burt Long. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and proud great-grandfather whose life was defined by his unwavering commitment to family and service to his community and church.
Booker was preceded in death by his parents, Booker T. Long, Sr. and Hattie Mae Burt Long; his beloved wife of 40 years, Thelma Long; and his siblings, Ella Long, Norma Long Brown, James Long, Sr., Glenda Burt, David Burt and a host of other siblings. Also preceded in death by special aunt, Lillian Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Gerald (Terri) Long; his sister, Daisy Mae Nix; his children, Candice Long, Sadina (Yason) Akech, Booker (Kimberly) Long, Jr., and Crystal Johnson; his grandchildren, Cherish (Oscar) Haley, Anteyon Johnson, Briana Long, Taylor Hayes, Miah Long, Dream Long, Sydne Long, Nicholas Johnson, Peyton Long, Booker Long III, and Dausann Carter. He also leaves behind three precious great-grandchildren, Oscar Haley IV, Harper Haley, and Nasir Long, who brought him endless joy. Also leaving long-time friend who he affectionately called Wild Bill and special niece, Monique Connor, who took care of him during his transitioning and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.
A dedicated public servant, Booker retired from the City of Canton, where he faithfully served the community for many years. His strong work ethic, integrity, and deep love for his family left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Booker J. Long, Sr. will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his kindness, strength, and the legacy of love he leaves behind. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
