Obituary

Mrs. Bobbie May was born on March 5, 1944, in New Hebron, Mississippi, Simpson County, to the late Leslie Johnson and Mamie Johnson. She departed this life on May 10, 2026.

She was educated in the Simpson County School District and graduated from New Hebron Attendance Center in Pinola, Mississippi.

In her early years, Bobbie met and married the love of her life, Ozell May. Together they relocated to Akron, Ohio, where they built a loving home and raised six children. Bobbie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was centered around faith, family, and fellowship.

Bobbie found great joy in studying the Word of God and spending meaningful time with her family and loved ones. She especially treasured traveling back home to Mississippi to reunite with relatives, attend the Mississippi State Fair with her sisters, and create lasting memories during family gatherings. One of her greatest joys was singing with her sisters, filling every gathering with love, laughter, and music.

Those who knew Bobbie will remember her caring spirit, warm heart, and unwavering love for her family. Her presence brought comfort, wisdom, and strength to those around her, and her legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories five loving children: Mitchell May of Akron, Ohio; Gary May (Felechia) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Shannon May of Akron, Ohio; Jennifer May of Akron, Ohio; and Jamie May of Akron, Ohio. She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved grandchildren: Connel May, Jr., Lewis May, Kingston McNary, James May, Monte Ruple, Antonio Grandison, and Rachelle Grant.

She also leaves three sisters: Mamie Jewel Brown (George Allen Brown) of New Hebron, Mississippi; Nealie Mae Johnson of Shivers, Mississippi; and Betty Younger of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one brother, Bernell Johnson of Shivers, Mississippi; and one niece reared as a sister, Carloyn Brown of New Hebron, Mississippi. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ozell May; her beloved son, Connel May; five sisters, Elle Ree McDougal, Willie Bell Johnson, Dessie Ree Johnson, Maggie Williams, and Mary Helen Brown; and three brothers, Carl Ray Johnson, L.V. Johnson, and Leslie Johnson, Jr.

Though she will be deeply missed, her love, faith, and beautiful memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
