Mrs. Betty Jean Tucker Pleasant age 78 of Canton, Ohio gained her heavenly wings on August 05, 2025, unexpectedly after a brief illness. Betty was a treasured native of Mobile, Alabama, born on November 29, 1946, to the late Arceal Fountain Tucker and George Ray Tucker. She attended Trinity Gardens school in Mobile AL, Betty married the love of her life on July 20, 1962, and became a young mother shortly after. Betty's determination to complete her education never wavered. Her commitment bore fruit in 2007 when she proudly received her GED in Canton, Ohio—a momentous occasion she cherished.
From an early age, Betty devoted her life to faith, nurturing an unshakeable love for the Lord that remained steadfast until her final moments. She was a pillar of strength and faith within her community, serving as the revered "Mother of the Church" at New Greater Peace Church in Canton, Ohio. Her life radiated kindness and wisdom, often offering sound counsel and encouragement to all who crossed her path. Betty loved sharing stories of Jesus' love with everyone she met.
Throughout her career, Betty worked diligently at Perry Rubber and as a nurse aide at a few nursing homes in the area, finally embracing her calling as a Foster Mother in the late 80s, a role she fulfilled with unmatched devotion. Working for a few agencies Pathway and Bellefaire she continued this line of work for over 25 yrs. Betty also volunteered for several years at TBN as a Prayer Partner. Whether singing hymns, exploring word-search puzzles, or enjoying joyous moments with family and friends, Betty's days were marked by an ever-deepening relationship with God, one she relished sharing with her loved ones.
Preceding Betty in death were her first born Christine Annette Pleasant-West; parents, Arceal and George Tucker; grandson, Ronald Pleasant (Ray Ray); (2) great-grandsons, Kashmere and King Pleasant; (2) sisters Juanita Armstead and Willie Mae Gullette; (2) brothers George R. Tucker and Henry Irwin Tucker; cherished parents-in-law, Eddie Lou Pleasant and Frank Pleasant; (2) sisters-in-law, Frankie Lou Pleasant Lawson and Gloria Pleasant Mitchell; son-in-law, Allen G. Trent; and her special niece, Valerie Burt.
Betty leaves behind a rich legacy through her loving husband of 63 years, William F. Pleasant; her devoted daughters Debrah Pleasant-Trent, Angela Pleasant (Robert) Mushatt, Betty D. Pleasant, all of Canton, OH and Demetra Pleasant -Nelson of Tampa, Florida; 2 sons-in-law Nathaniel West Sr. of Canton, OH, Kevin Nelson of Tampa, FL and her 17 beloved grandchildren, who include Natatia (Darryl) Peterson, Shakila Pleasant-Faulkner, Ebony (Donnie) Cundiff, Angel West, Nate (Kelsey) West Jr., Tyneshia Pleasant, Joshua Pleasant-Vance, Travon (Laura) Pleasant, Emari' (Terry) Nelson-Percy, William Pleasant II, Sharda Nelson, Emani Sistrunk, Destiney Pleasant, Isaiah (Julia) Pleasant, Alexis Mushatt, Mariah Mushatt and Granddaughter-in-law Kimberly Pleasant. She was blessed with 54 greatgrandchildren which includes a very special great-granddaughter, Nautika Randle, who stood by her throughout her journey. She also leaves behind Her loving brother, John Tucker of Canton, Ohio. She is fondly remembered by her in-laws Charles Gullette of Mobile, AL, Patricia Tucker, Barbara Smith, John Pleasant, Sandy Pleasant (Faye), Annie Pleasant, Ben Pleasant (Opal) and Helen Pleasant all of Canton, OH. Betty cherished her nieces Shannon Doll, DeAndrea Gullette, Cherise Tucker Mays, Cathy (Jerry) Quarterman, Denise Harris (Hill) and her God-daughter Star Dunbar. Many others considered her a second mother, including Robin Ford-Franklin, Gwendolyn Ford Lynch, Robin Mingo-Miles, Lena Fontes, Diane Jones, Addrienne McCorvey, Archie Bell, and Willie McClure. Betty Jean Pleasant legacy of love, faith, and friendship endures in the hearts of a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friend including her lifelong friends Venus Croston, Carol Harris, Phyllis Green, Martha Miles, Sandra Perry (Ford), Ruth Mingo, Bessie Mann, and Mary (Piggy) McMillian-Anderson. Her genuine spirit and victorious life continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
