Bernestine "Bernie" Edwards went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 22, 2021, at the age of 90 years old. Bernestine was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 15, 1931 to the late Wesley and Minnie Johnson, Sr.

Bernestine moved to Akron at an early age and graduated from South High School. Following graduation, she married Floyd William Edwards. To this union 4 children were born, Jackie, Gwen, Eric and Robin.

Bernestine was employed by the original O'Neil's through the transition to Kaufman's retiring after 30 years of service. She was also employed by the Post Office and Kandy Kane Christian Day Care.

Bernestine loved to cook and spend time cultivating and enjoying her garden. A longtime member of The House of the Lord, Sis. Bernestine served faithfully in the Choir Ministry and in the Hospitality Ministry among others. Her loving smile and her presence will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 30 years, Floyd William Edwards; sisters, Willie Mae Shirley, Bertha Suttles, and Lucille North; brothers, William Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Jr., Robert Johnson, James Russell, and Lewis Reace.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Jackie McKnight, Gwendolyn Thomas, and Robin Thomas; one son, Eric Edwards; grandchildren, Keith (Deonna) Thomas, Jeff Eastern (Mari Chatman), Jason (Jelessa) Marks, DeShawn McKnight, Camesha McKnight, LaTonya McKnight, Derrick Roberts, DaShawn Roberts, Eric Floyd Edwards, Jr., and Imani Yasmeen; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; special nieces, Yvonne Mitchell and Pat North; and a host of other relatives and friends.
