Benjamin Raymond Brown was born in Washington, D.C. on May 25, 1973, to Elizabeth A. Brown and the late Benjamin Mitchell.  He was the first born, followed by his sister Felicia S. Brown, with whom they were very close.

Benjamin lived in Oxon Hill, Maryland and also Capital Heights, Maryland.  In 1989, the family relocated to Akron, Ohio, at which time, Benjamin attended and graduated from Buchtel High School. Benjamin became a great uncle on September 1, 2022, to Nylah Clayton.  He is also uncle to Dyauna Vincent, Darnell Clayton and JKayden Wydud.

His middle name came from his grandfather's first name, which was Raymond.
