Beatress Grundy, aged 98, Born to the late Joesph Penn and Mary Alice Hairston Penn passed away on October 12, 2024, in Akron, Ohio. Born on March 2, 1926, in Bassett, VA, she lived a rich and fulfilling life marked by her dedication to her family and community.

Beatress retired from a rewarding career at AT&T (formerly Ohio Bell), where she was respected for her work ethic and kindness towards colleagues. She was a proud alumna of Kent State University, which laid the foundation for her professional achievements.

A devout member of Zion Temple Baptist, Beatress, where she was known as "Mother Grundy", actively participated in church activities, contributing to her community's spiritual life. Her faith was a significant aspect of her life, offering her comfort and a sense of purpose.

Family was central to Beatress's life. She is survived by her son, William Grundy Jr. (Renee), and daughter, Lisa Grundy; grandsons, Bret Schoolcraft (Jessica), Erik Kearns (Angie), Chester Grundy, and Brian Grundy; a very special granddaughter, Brittany May (Aaron); 17 great-grandchildren; numerous special nieces and nephews; and a special sister-in-law, Louise Grundy. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Grundy Sr. brothers, George, Alexander, Hiwatha, Clifford and John; sisters, Jessie Mae and Alma; and grandsons, William Grundy III (lil Billy) and Raymond (RayRay) Grundy.

An avid reader, Beatress cherished the time spent with her expansive family, always eager to attend gatherings and ensure everyone felt loved and cared for. Her home was often filled with laughter, lively conversations, and the joyous chaos of a large, closely-knit family.

Services to honor her life will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, 12 pm viewing 1 pm service at Rhoden Memorial Home, 1101 Palmetto Ave, Akron, Ohio 44306.  The family welcomes all who knew Beatress to join in celebrating her remarkable life and legacy.
