Arvita Lee (Clemons) Mcneill's Obituary

Arvita Lee (Clemons) McNeill "Arv" left us peacefully on March 7, 2025 in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. She was born November 17, 1946 in Akron, Ohio, to the late Percy and Clara (Brown) Clemons. In 1956, she and her parents moved to Canton Ohio, where she was raised. Arvita was a proud graduate of Canton McKinley High School, Class of 1964 and she made lifelong friends there. After high school, she moved to Cleveland Ohio and then Dayton Ohio to work in both cities for the Federal government in the Navy. She was audacious and she had an entrepreneurial spirit, which would always help her think of ways to take care of her children, the loves of her life! Besides working, she planned poker games, sold dinners (Arvita's Chicken Wing Shack), and planned excursion trips. Anything to take care of and show her kids how to be in business. She was artistic and had a beautiful voice; and at 4 she made her own opera record. She crocheted, made jewel beaded bracelets, did ceramics, and became the President of the Urban League Choir, under the direction of Pastor George Dunwoody. Arvita was the life of the party! She loved to hang out with family and friends, and her house was THE house to be at in the 60's and 70's! She had her friends over all the time to have dinner and play cards. She always loved music and in the 80s and 90s her house parties were epic! She also planned our first Brown Family Reunion and then kept it going for years. For her 65th birthday, we planned a surprise birthday party for her, BUT she wanted her own party so she ended up having 2 birthday parties. She enjoyed just sitting on the porch on Penn Place or at Jamita's house just laughing and talking. Her laugh and her sayings were infectious, such as "Chile" She was also faithful. She was longtime member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church and their many auxiliaries, and she loved giving people a helping hand. When she got ill with Covid in 2021, she went into a coma. Once she came out of it, she said that God gave her the mantra "Pray About It, Be About It, Don't Worry About It." That saying has blessed so many people. Our mother and grandmother was a very strong lady. On top of the numerous health issues she had, through it all, she would always bounce back, laughing and enjoying life; but on March 7th, the day after her mother passed away 18 years ago, she got tired and was ready to see her family, whom she loved and missed, and she left us. She fought the good fight; she finished the race, and she kept her faith. And now she has a crown of righteousness, which was awarded to her on that day. She was preceded in death by her parents; (11) aunts; (1) uncle; (5) first cousins that just passed away recently, Pearl Richardson, Ruth McBeth, Mildred Wright, Delores Christian and Sharon Jones; her bonus son, Karsten Stevens; and very good friends, Kenny Butler, Fred Johnson, Edna Bacon. Arvita is survived by her one (1) daughter, Jamita McNeill of Canton Ohio; three (3) sons, Fredrik Dimitrius Stevens and Angelo Broyles (Yolanda), both of Atlanta Georgia & Gilbert McNeill of Canton Ohio; seven (7) grandchildren, Du'Jshon Stevens, Kashmae Hofacre, Steffan McNeill, Khimani McNeill, Leilani McNeill, Laniya Mae Stevens & Ni'Kiah Snell; adopted sister, Sonia Chin of Brooklyn NY; bonus son, Korey Stevens (Val); three (3) Godsons, Malykke, Myles & Micah Bacon; special cousins, Mag Mckenzie, Betty Stinson, Denise Ware, Sandy Shuford, Geraldine Brown & Lawrence Alford; her sister-friends, Linda Sue Towles, Rosie Smith, NL Walker, Gloria Wilson & Pastor Suzette Smith, all of Canton, Pat Dunham of Dayton Ohio, Pastor Paul Watson of Sandusky OH, the Williams, Davidson, Perry, Towles, Smith/Mathis and Warren/French families, all whom she loved dearly; and a host of cousins, friends and her Penn Place family.
