Deacon Arthur John Douglas was born on April 16, 1943, to the late Napoleon and Dorothy Douglas of Barberton, Ohio.
He departed this life on June 11,2024.
Arthur graduated from Barberton School after which he enlisted into the United States Army. He relocated to Illinois and worked for the State of Illinois in various positions as Firearms Instructor, Chemical Agent, CPR Instructor, Chicago Police Officer and Correctional Captain, retiring after 28 years of service.
In 1976, Deacon Arthur Douglas attended Joliette Community College taking courses in law enforcement and correctional management receiving his associate degree.
In 2003 Deacon Arthur Douglas accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized in Jesus Name and received a precious gift of the Holy Ghost.
He was a faithful member of the First Apostolic Faith Church, serving on the Deacon Board, Member of the Brotherhood, Family Life Group, Food Bank Ministry Volunteer, Volunteer for the Passport to Fishing Program, teaching boys and girls about fishing techniques which was his love along with boating and hunting.
In 2015, he received an award for Significant African American Male from the Black Women's Caucus.
Arthur was proceeded in death by his parents Nepoleon and Dorothy Douglas.
Brother; Lawrence and Gerald, Sisters; Juanita Young, Patricia Gyasi, and Doris James.
Leaves to mourn and cherish memories, Wife of 20 years, Debra Douglas.
Sister; Vivian Freeman of Georgia, and Rose Jones of Akron.
Brother; Anthony {Helen} Douglas of North Carolina.
Sons; Arthur Douglas Jr. of Georgia, Derrick Martin II of Akron, Ohio, Dwayne {Taylor} Martin of West Virginia, and Randall Cross of Akron, Ohio.
Daughters; Angela Beckley- Wilburn of Colorado, Dawn Douglas of Illinois, Catherine Denwood and Arlicia Douglas of Illinois.
Sister-in-laws; Dr. Joyce {Deacon Gerald} Hilton, Janice Wright-Blair, and JoAnne Christain of Akron, Ohio. Brother-n -law Charles Wright,
19 Grandchildren, 8 Great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
