Anthony Wayne Sams, Sr., affectionately known to many as Tony, Pops or Unc was born on April 3, 1959 to Robert and Delois Sams in Akron, Ohio. He was suddenly taken away from his family and those who loved him on December 13, 2020. Pops was an Akron native. He attended North and East High Schools and graduated in 1977. He was a talented athlete who dominated in basketball, football, and track. He dedicated over 30 years of service to the City of Akron Recreational Service, Yellow cab and Cardinal Environmental Services. Pops was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Delois Sams; niece, Martrisha Sams; and nephews, Robert III and Thomas Sams. He leaves to cherish his memory, siblings, Phenecia Curry (Sams), Robert (Rose) Sams and Wanda (Leon) Sams; daughter, Toshia Sams; sons, Anthony (Candice) Sams, Jr., Allen Sams, and Antonio Williams; grandchildren, Marquis (Lexi) Sams, Angelyca Rodgers, Anthonie Sams, Deon Rodgers, Ayden Sams and Cristen; great grandson, Marquis Sams, Jr.; loving mother of his children, Karen Anderson; special friends, Joe Butts, Vance Summers, Aaron Johnson (Frog), Junie  Halsell, and Pat Summers; special nephews, Dion Stanford (Debo) and Steve Cherry (Bolo); and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
