Anthony D.
Hickman
January 16, 1962 – January 9, 2024
Anthony "Tony" D. Hickman was born on January 16, 1962, in Akron, Ohio at Akron City Hospital, to parents Eddie and Betty Hickman. Tony grew up on 7th Avenue on Akron's Eastside before moving to the Westside on Norma Avenue. Tony attended Robinson and Rankin Elementary Schools, West Junior High School, and Buchtel High School. Tony enjoyed playing basketball and football in the neighborhood. While attending Buchtel, Tony's love for music led him to play the tuba and trombone in the marching band.
After attending high school, Tony joined the United States Marine Corps. It was a proud moment when Tony arrived back to Akron after boot camp in his Marine Corps Dress Blue Uniform. While in the military, he spent 2 years at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. After Tony was discharged from the Marines, he returned to Akron where he spent the majority of his life. Tony was the ultimate Ohio sports fan, following the ups and downs of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and of course the Ohio State Buckeyes. Tony's last years were spent in Canton, Cuyahoga Falls and Stow.
Tony leaves behind a brother, Dwayne E. Hickman Sr., (Charmaine); sister, Tina W. Butts (Allan), half-brother Lynn "Elmo" Bush; five nephews, Lynn Michael, Dwayne E. Hickman Jr., DaShawn A. Hickman, JaVonte J. Willis, and Immanuel "Manny" Butts; two nieces, Sheba Michael and Lakia T. Hickman; two great nephews, Kobe J. Hickman and August L. McGill; Close Friend Edna Gibson, and a host of family and friends from Akron. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty J. Liggins; father, Eddie Hickman, Jr.; and, sister Judith "Judy" Marie Willis.
The family would like to thank everyone for your love, support and prayers during this difficult time. We truly believe that Tony is in a better place now, resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
