Annette (Cox) Sledge's Obituary

Annette "Nette" (Cox) Sledge, a longtime resident of the North Akron community, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the age of 64, following a brief illness. She was born on July 28, 1961, to James Sr. and Rosie Smith in Akron, Ohio.

Nette was a remarkable woman who was many things to many people: a devoted wife and mother, a cherished nana, a beloved sister and auntie, and to all who knew her, a true queen. Behind her vibrant spirit was a woman who believed deeply in hard work and responsibility. She dedicated more than 30 years of service to Akron Children's Hospital, earning the respect of coworkers through her commitment, consistency, and heart for helping others.

She was the heart of her family and the undeniable life of the party, bringing energy, style, and joy wherever she went. Strong yet full of love, she knew how to command a room without saying a word. Family was her favorite place to be—especially when it meant laughing loud, telling stories, making memories together, and always being ready for pictures. Music was her love language, and once it started, she was on the dance floor. She loved to travel, explore, and experience life fully, always returning with stories as bold and unforgettable as she was.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rosie Smith Sr.; her aunt, Mae Cephus; brothers, Almond Cox, James Smith Jr., and Rickey Smith; granddaughter, Brianna Coppinger; and her great-grandson, Azire Wood Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 44 years, Laron (Sug) Sledge-Bey; son, Victor (Tierria) Cox; Jason (Cherise) Coppinger daughters, Saquoya Sledge and Lawan Short; sisters, April (Donald) Cox-Sherman, Marcy (Karl) Vaughn Perkins, Patricia West and Laverne Willis; brother, Alexander Cox; grandchildren, Ginnique, Acea, Azire, Darnell, Javier, Jalen, Jaden, Charea, and Chariff; and great-grandchildren, Legacy, Legend, and Acelynn; along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.

Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit lives on through the lessons she taught, the love she gave, and the memories she leaves behind. She will continue to reign in the hearts of everyone who loved her.

Condolences may be sent to 50 Edward Ave Akron, OH 44310.
