Obituary

Alvin L Brown Jr. turned his last and final corner on the morning of April 2, 2022. Alvin was born September 20, 1946, to the late Beatrice M.  and Alvin L. Brown Sr., in Akron, Ohio. He was educated in Akron Public Schools, graduating from Akron South High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966, advancing to the rank of sergeant, specializing in heavy artillery. Before being Honorably Discharged after surviving a tour of duty in Vietnam, he was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Marksman (Rifle), Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1972, Alvin began his career with Akron Mettropolitan Regional Transit Authority (METRO). During his tenure of driving, he received many awards and safety accommodations. After 21 years of safe driving, he was inducted into Metro's Hall of Fame on January 1, 1998. He made history for himself and Metro by becoming their first operator to reach 25 years of public transit driving without a " preventable accident".  On October 1, 2001, Alvin retired from Metro after 29 years of dedicated service. In his retirement, he not only enjoyed tranquil walks around the lake and playing music, but he also enjoyed being a member of The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), and Free Flight Society, making and flying his own planes.
