Abraham (Abe) Smith Sr., 72, of Canton, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 4th, 2017, with his wife and loved ones by his side. He was born on February 12, 1945 in Canton, Ohio to Eugene W. and Olar Mae Smith.
Abraham accepted the Lord as his Savior at a young age. In his adult life he served as a Deacon at Deliverance Christian Church, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, and Zion's Temple Church of God.
Abraham graduated from McKinley High School. Afterwards he joined the United States Army and became a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. After Basic Training, however, he was united in marriage to his queen, Patricia, on November 13, 1965. Cherishing 52 years of marriage, their love connection was so strong that he remarried her after 25 years of marriage, and again on their 50th anniversary. He "LOVED him some Pat!"
Abraham retired from the Timken Company after 15 years of service. He attended Stark State College and Kent State University where he earned a degree in Nursing Home Administration. He was licensed by the State of Ohio, and was the Administrator at four nursing homes: Jean Carol, Walnut Hills, Lyons Nursing Home, and the family-owned Smith Healthcare Incorporated.
Abraham coached basketball and midget league football, and was a father figure to MANY young people. He enjoyed bowling with his brothers, and with his father-in-law Charlie Watkins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene W. and Olar Mae Smith; sister Dorothy Vance; brothers William and Benjamin Smith; and great-granddaughter Caylynn Smith.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories his wife Patricia Smith; sons Abraham (Felicia) Smith, Jr. of Canton, OH and Anthony (Tammy) Smith I of Bluffton, SC; daughters Tori Smith of Scottsdale, AZ and Angela (Edward) Williams of Canton, OH; the Helen Lancaster family; brother George Smith, Sr. of Canton, OH; sisters Arlene Logan and Rosie Smith of Canton, OH; sisters-in-law Ernestine Smith, Zee Smith, Veronica Swint, Marcia Watkins, Myra Watkins and Erica Watkins (all of Canton, OH), Teina Linthicum of Greensboro, NC and Nancy (Martin) Tyer of Snellville, GA; one brother-in-law, Alva Watkins of Canton, OH; god-daughter, Diane Williams and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and god-children.
