Shirley Haslam(Johnson) , 74, was called home on February 16, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born to the union of Nancy Simon and Harry Lee Johnson on May 11, 1944 in Lackey, Alabama. Shirley came to Akron, Ohio in 1959 from Crestview, Florida.
While in Akron, Shirley attended and graduated from East High School where she was a proud member of the East Oriental Basketball team.
She was active in PTA at Robinson Elementary. She was employed with Akron Board of Education for a number of years. During her years of employment, she worked at Robinson, Leggett, Barrett and Riedinger schools. She enjoyed working with all children, but particularly enjoyed working with children with disabilities. She had a way with children and they responded so well to her. She also had a passionate love for music.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Benny Haslam, Jr.; son, Keven Haslam; Parents, Nancy Simon and Harry Lee Johnson; Brothers, Danny Johnson, Kenny Johnson;. Surrogate parents, Marcell Marcus of Seattle and Edwin L. Marcus of Seattle.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Erika Haslam-Adams (William); Brother, Leon Johnson; sister, Geraldine Beatty; grandson, DeAngelo (Diamond) Haslam and granddaughter, Erika Haslam;. Grandchildren, Ahlora Whines and Dallas Haslam; Special extended family, Consuella Dubose (Seattle), Toni G. Massey (Atlanta), Deborah A. Green (Seattle), Clifton Marcus (Atlanta) and Howard d. Marcus(Atlanta), and a host of other family and friends.
Service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019, 12:00 PM at Rhoden Memorial Home,1101 Palmetto Ave., Akron, OH 44306. Visitation at 11 AM. Minister William McWain, Eulogizing and Pastor Lorenzo Glenn, Officiating. Interment, Glendale Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to 827 Lovers Lane, Akron, OH 44306.
