On Saturday, September 1, 2018, Rev. Dr. Luther Charles Cooper made his peaceful transition from labor to reward at the age of 78. He was born on April 2, 1940 in Columbus, Mississippi to his parents, Flozell and Earlene Cooper. He served as the pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for 42 years and recently became the founder and pastor of New Fellowship Baptist church. Pastor Cooper served on various boards and committees for the City of Akron. Pastor Cooper is preceded in death by his parents, Flozell and Earlene Cooper; brothers, McKinley Sanders, George Hairston, and his twin Willie Cooper; uncles Robert Thomas, Lucius and Alonzo Caine; aunt, Mary Hopkins. He leaves to forever cherish his loving memory and to carry on his legacy wife of 53 years, Car Lee Cooper; daughter, Carmela Cooper; son, Luther Carl Cooper; granddaughter whom he adored, Phoenix Cooper; sisters, Dora (Harvey) Holling and Nettie (Peter) Thompson; brother, Sylvester (Sallie) Cooper; aunts, Fannie Caine and Marie Thomas; special nieces, Shavella (David) Johnson and Tamika (Cullen) Rogers; special friends, Rev. Clifton Norwood, Rev. Leonard T. King, Rev. Mark Black, Rev. Mark Frye and Rev. Dr. Byron Arledge; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, clergy other loving relatives and many friends.
