Minnie Walker, passed away on February 15, 2018, in Fairburn, Georgia after an extended illness. Born in Asheville, North Carolina on May 28, 1928. She was a long time member of the Akron Community. Minnie retired from Summa Akron City Hospital as an LPN in the labor and delivery unit and also at Children’s Hospital. She was a graduate from the University of Akron and was a member of the National Black Nurses Association where she received the Women’s History Project with Integrity Award from the Akron Black Nurses Association. She also did volunteer work giving free blood pressure checks, volunteering at the Haven of Rest, Safe Landings and the Battered Women’s Shelter. Minnie was an active member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church serving on the nurse’s guild. Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, son, Charles Williams Jr.; and four sisters. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children, Stephen Williams, Gregory (Dorthea) Williams, John (Bertha) Williams, Nona (Gary) Welch and Natalie Karen Walker; sisters, Cornelia Deck and Dolores (Dean) Bryson; special friend, Fannie Purdue and the Mt. Olive Family; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
