MARIAN LONGSHORE Obituary

Marian June (Newsome) Longshore, age 82, was peacefully called home by The Lord on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Akron General Hospital, following a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded and comforted by her loving family.

She was born to Mary K. (Starks) Newsome and WilliamNewsome in Canton, Ohio, on June 24, 1936. Marian was regularly called by her nickname “Judy” by the many family and friends who knew her well. She attended Malvern High School (class of 1954).   Following graduation, Marian attended Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her license as a registered nurse. In 1957,she began her career at Apple Creek State Hospital where she devoted herself to patient quality of life care until her retirement in 1991. During that time, Marian met, fell in love with, and married Eddie B. Longshore Jr. on August 17, 1959.

In addition to nursing, Marian had many other interests and activities.  She attended Malvern Baptist Church as a child, played slide trombone in high school and learned to play the piano.  She served as member of her Neighborhood Housing Association and as Treasurer and Deaconess of her church.  They called her Mother Longshore.  She also sang in the church choir.  She received Mayors’ proclamations for her service when she retired in 1991 and again in June of 2018.  As Massillon’s poet laureate she authored numerous poems dedicated to, family, friends, loved ones and the Lord.  One of her favorite Bible passages was Psalm 34.  Right up to the end she continued to bless the Lord at all times, his praise was continually in her mouth.

Throughout her life, Marian was a devout Christian who loved The Lord and worked to trumpet His Word by showering people around her with love, faith and prayers. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; whether it was fellowshipping with her church family, delivering meals to the sick and shut-in, or just extending a kind word to someone in need. She will be remembered as a selfless, nurturing soul who always took time for others.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Gloria Thompson and Ada Mitchell; three brothers Clyde Thompson, Joseph and William E. Newsome.  She is survived by her five, children Alonzo (Javear) Longshore, Kayellen (Don) Hurd, Kevin Longshore, Pamela Longshore, and Shari Bell; grandchildren Jasmine Longshore, Alaina Longshore, Alonzo Longshore II;  great-grandson Abraham Krauss; brothers John Newsome, Reverend Bernard (Patricia) Newsome; sisters Wilhelmina (Polk) Wright, Madeline (Joseph) Burkes; and a host of wonderful nieces; nephews, cousins and other beloveds including Sarah and Sam Johnson.
