Mrs. Mae Bell Davenport was born on February 9, 1934, in Carlton, Georgia to Sebell and Thad Mattox. She made her heavenly transition to be with the Lord on July 11, 2019 at 10:07 p.m.
Mae moved to Canton, Ohio in 1955 where she joined St. Mark Baptist Church. She later joined True Light Christian Ministries Well known in the Stark County community, Mae retired from The Timken Company after 30 yeas of service in 1998. However she was a mother to many young people who knew and loved her. She was known for her exceptional culinary skills. Among her specialties were cobblers (peach, blackberry, and sweet potato), turkey, greens, and dressing.
Mae was preceded in death by her mother and father, daughters, Jenelle Davenport and Tressie Lynn Mayle; brother, Thad Mattox, Jr. and the love of her life Willie Slay; the father of her children and long-time companion of Wille F. Vaughns.
Mae leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Mary E. Pratt of Atlanta, Georgia, Beatrice Tharp of Canton, Ohio, Willie Mae Davenport-Wilson (Anthony) of Simpsonville, Kentucky; sons, Thomas A Davenport of Canton, Ohio, Tomier T. Davenport (Kimberly) of Canton, Ohio, Theodore “Ted” Davenport (Mari) of North Ridgeville, Ohio; sisters, Sarah E. Pass of Oglethorpe, Georgia, Carrie L. Carpenter of Canton, Ohio, and Lucy Stewart of Atlanta, Georgia: (21) grandchildren, (24) great-grandchildren, (8) great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
