James “Johnny” McLendon, age 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by family on Sunday, February 24, 2019. He was born on December 4, 1946 to the late Larry and Mary Emma McLendon. James was a graduate of Washington High School. He was employed at Whitacre Greer, Republic Steel Burger Division and retired from The Ford Motor Company. He coached the Braves baseball team for many years at Lee’s Park. Johnny loved cooking, politics, playing the lottery, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by (5) brothers, Ezzard, Chrles, Larry, Mack, and Harold “Bo” McLendon, as well as (1) sister, Rose Jones; sister-in-law, Wanda Cheek; father-in-law, Paul Cheek; mother-in-law, Viva Cheek.
He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life for 59 years, Edna (Paulette) McLendon; (3) sons, Joseph, John (Crystal), James (Tabatha) McLendon; (16) grandchildren, (16) great-grandchildren,(1) brother, Mark (Laura) McLendon; sisters, Doris (Lenny) Griffin, Mary Frazier; brother-in-law, joe Jones, Michael (Ronnie) Cheek; sister-in-laws, Pearl McLendon, Linda Cheek, Susan (Arvester) Lowe; special friends, Tommy Brown and Freddy Frazier, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
