Gussie Mae Smith, 95, passed away on July 5, 2018 at Kobacker House Hospice Center in Columbus Ohio. Gussie was born in Forkland, Alabama on August 29, 1922. Gussie worked as a school teacher in Alabama in her early youth, for The Hoover Company in the WWII effort, and much later as a Brinks teller at People’s Bank in Canton Ohio. Gussie had unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Bethel CME Church in Canton for many years where she served as treasurer and president of the Missionary Society, also as a youth and adult Sunday school teacher. Gussie was proceeded in death by her husband Charles J. Smith (CJ), her mother, Lilly Mae Harris, her father, Sam Harris, and a sister, Charlotte Johnson. She is survived by her son, Alan Lionel Smith, her grandson, Alan Michael Smith, and three great grandchildren; Cherish Smith, Daylen Evans, and Tyziano Smith (all of Columbus Ohio). She is also survived by her dear nephew, Mark Armstead, who helped her so much over the years, and her cousin Regina Bess, both of Canton.
