Cartrena Lopez Clopton, gained her heavenly wings on June 25, 2019 at hthe blessed age of 82. She was born on March 21, 1937, in Lyerly, Georgia.
She first worked as a cook to help support her family, later enrolling at the University of Akron earning her associate degree. She was employed by Community Action Council and became a head start teacher for several years, ending her career as a director of a head start center.
She was formerly united with Zion Temple Baptist Church where she served on the usher board and was active in Sunday School and later she united with Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, very active until her health declined. She was a member of the Eastern Stars.
Left to cherish her memories are sons, Cartez Clopton, Dwain Clopton, Andre (Melanie) McClendon of Akron, Ohio, Derrick Clopton of Denver, Colorado, Kenneth (Tamara) Clopton of Manor, Texas and daughter LeQuita Richardson of Akron, Ohio; two grandchildren that she raised, Dujuan McClendon Jr. and Danielle Williams,16 other grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; two brother, Ronald McClendon and Alvar (Annette) McClendon; three sisters, Tivoli Smith, Garnett (Coniley) Harper and Erlane (Gordon) Keaton who were her caretakers during her nursing home stay, a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, other family and friends.
