Carole D. Cunningham Smith, age 77, passed away June 4, 2019 at The Laurels of Massillon following a brief illness. She was born July 24, 1941 in Canton, Ohio. Born to the late Theodore and Inez Cunningham, Carole graduated from McKinley High School in the class of 1959 and then attended graduated from Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia.
Carole was employed with the Canton Urban League as a summer instructor for the City of Canton, and was a teacher’s aide at Gibbs Elementary School in Canton. Most of all she was a very devoted wife to the late Willie (Herman) Smith. They were married 52 years until he passed in 2015.
Carole was a very devoted member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Tavares, Jr. until the time of her passing. She was known as Aunt Carole to all her church family.
She did not have any children of her own but had many nieces and nephews whom she loved and who loved her.
She is survived by her sister, Gayle Redding of Canton and Lorraine (Frank) Bibby of El Dorado, Arkansas; nieces, Daphne Redding, Carole Hibbert, Amber Cunningham, Sandy Nelson and Lauren Bibby Johnson, Sandra Armstead; nephews, Lester Redding, Larry Bibby, Lamar Bibby and Alvin Cunningham, Jr.; (1) sister-in-law, Iphagenia (Emmilee) Smith of Canton; (1) brother-in-law, Pastor Robert (Lillie) Smith of Raleigh, North Carolina. She had so many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces, and nephews, (3) great-great-great nephews on her husband side of the family that there wouldn’t be room to name them all from Ohio, Georgia, Florida, Texas, North Carolina,Virginia, and Germany.
