Rita J. Barbosa was born April 5, 1939 in Aultman, Ohio to the late Antonio and Elizabeth Barbosa. She went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Rita professed Christ at an early age and became a member of the sunshine band and later sung in the adult choir. Once she moved to Canton, she became a member of Antioch Baptist and sang in the choir. In recent years, Rita attended Union Baptist Church  under the leadership of Pastor Sherman Martin. Growing up in Aultman with her family Rita developed strong values, as well as lifelong friendships. Her work ethic began at the Supersonic Car Wash. We always believed the movie “Car Wash” was loosely based on the lives of Rita, Silver and her friends. The values learned in Aultman encouraged a long working history with Ecko Products, Hoover Company, Thermtrol Corporation, and finally the Sherrick Road Church of God Social Program. It was in Aultman that Rita began to play softball. Once she moved to Canton she continued to play for Web Smith’s team. For enjoyment, Rita would go on “special bus trips” with her older and dearest sister. She also spent hours at home working on word search puzzles books and watching sports, one of her favorite past-times was watching basketball games on television. The strongest influence in Rita’s life was “The Word of GOD”. Matthew 6:6 (NKJV) exemplifies her daily routine: “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” and  she studied the scriptures daily. In addition to her parents Rita was preceded in death (3) brothers, David, Mark and Napoleon Barbosa; (2) sisters, Antonia Flowers and Silver Thompson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory (2) sons, Anthony Barbosa of Oakland, California and Jason Barbosa of Canton, Ohio; (5) grandchildren, Asia and A’lexus Barbosa, Damir Jackson, Elijah Barbosa, Jay’ceon Barbosa (1) brother, Robert (Gale) Smith; (1) sister, Cynthia Barbosa of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; (2) sister-in-laws, Freddie Barbosa and Dorothy Barbosa; (1) brother-in-law, Leroy Thompson; special friends, Thelma, Alice, Madeline and the Perrin Sisters, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
