Mamie (Vance) Perrin (affectionately known as (“Mame”), 92 completed her journey on December 23, 2016 in New Philadelphia Ohio at the Community Hospice Care Center. Born on January 25, 1924, in Elberton, GA to the late Mary and Dan Perrin, Mamie was the matriarch of the Perrin legacy and lived to see her family five generations strong. Mamie grew up in Elberton, GA and was the eldest girl of ten children. She resided in Canton for over 70 years.
A child growing up during & after the depression Mamie learned the value of preparing and storing food. Subsequently she became a masterful cook.
Liken to her mother, she knew her way around the kitchen and was best known by many for her soul food cuisine style of cooking especially her cakes and pies. Her cooking would eventually influence her employment at one of Canton’s finest restaurant, The Mayfair, where she would work for 30 years tickling & satisfying the taste buds of many influential people until she retired.
Continuing in the footsteps of her mother, she didn’t believe in serving her family process or fast foods, she believed in wholesome comfort food, a contributing factor to the longevity of this family.
She was a sports enthusiast and a very good basketball player and probably passed on those skills down to her sons, grandchildren as well as great grandchildren.
Mamie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Dan Perrin, her beloved son, Johnny Walls, infant daughter ( who passed at birth) and (3) brothers, John (JD), Willie Charlie and Edward Perrin.
