Leroy Johnson, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle transitioned from this earthly life and changed his address to Heaven's Gates on Monday, August 28, 2017. He was born June 13, 1944 in Canton, Ohio. He was the son of the late Emmett Johnson and Lucy Mae (Clemmons) Green. Leroy graduated from McKinley High School where he excelled in football and remained an avid McKinley Bulldog. He was also a faithful Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a former member of Union Baptist and Antioch Baptist Church's under the pastorate of Rev. W. C. Henderson. He was employed at the Republic Steel Corporation for over 30 years and became the first African American Millwright. he was a very articulate man and embodied perfection with everything he attempted. He was a Master Chess player. He loved playing family games, always considering himself as "THE CHAMPION".
Leroy was predeceased by his parents; stepfathers: Wilson Dillard, Rev. Isaac Green; siblings, Bertha Knighton, Daisy L. Johnson, Irene Green, Carol Y. Dillard; sons, Eric Scott Johnson, Drake A. Stokes and an infant child at birth; infant grandchildren, Patrick Lynel Price and Shawn Dale Smith II; aunts, Pearl (John) Frazier, Willie Lee Williams, Leanna Thomas; nephews, Anthony L . Johnson and Leo A. Knighton; close cousin, Lonnie C. Clark.
His precious memories will be cherished by his daughters, Patricia Marie Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, Audra (Dewon I) Turpin of Orlando, Florida; son, LeRoy (Madeleine) Stokes of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Shaterra Ramsey and Dewon Turpin II of Canton,Ohio, Jamal Osborne and Olivia Stokes of Huntsville, Alabama; great grandchild, Maddox Storm Moore of Canton, Ohio; nieces, Johnetta Nelson of Canton, Ohio, Ziva Gardener, Zulieka Knighton and April Turner of New York; former spouse and special friend Sadina Moses of Canton, Ohio; cousins, Catherine Clark of Canton, Ohio, Timothy Frazier and Leona Knighton of Orlando, Florida; sisters and brothers -in-law, Carolyn (James) Sims, Linda (Perry) Range of Canton, Ohio, George (Dawn) Clark of Tulsa, Oklahoma as well as a host of family and friends.
