Florence Elaine Settles affectionately known as “Pookie” transitioned to heaven to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 6, 2016. she was born October 29, 1948 in Canton, Ohio to the late Ada Milan Gorman and Stepfather Eddie Gorman. She attended McKinley High School and Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio where she excelled in all her classes and played the trombone in the band. She went on and continued her studies at Mt. Union College in Alliance, Ohio. Florence was a beautiful, intelligent, giving, comical, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Flo spent her free time bowling as a member on many leagues around the city. She loved to take short excursions to the casino as well as many holidays on the bank of Gilford Lake casting her pole. She was such a LADY! She worked at Diebold for many years as a supervisor before she had to take an early retirement due to illness. She is preceded in death by her sisters June Harris of Cleveland, Ohio and Irine Curry “BeBe” of Columbus, Ohio. She is leaving behind to carry on her memory Joan Collins of New York and her husband of 31 years Brandon Settles; her sons Jimmie III and Kristen Thompson, Brandon and Jason Settles; stepson, Terrence Miles; daughters, Mellany McLeod, Indya Cundiff; Katherine and Katrina Settles; special nephew Derrick Ball. She was also blessed with 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins from the Settles, Bonner, Milan, Chenault, and Curry families. Anyone that had the chance to get to know Florence knew that she was one of the most loving, caring, kindhearted person. She has so many loved ones and friends that will deeply miss her.
